Advanced Placement

AP courses provides our students the chance to tackle college-level work while they're still in high school. And through taking AP Exams, students can earn college credit and placement.

Falcons may take one or more of the AP courses offered at Santee, or may choose to prepare outside of an organized class.

AP exams are taken during the first two weeks of May each year. If a student scores a 4 or 5 on the exam, most universities grant credit, advanced placement, or both (check with universities you are considering as policies can vary widely between institutions).

Students that score at least 4 on all AP Exams taken AND take five or more AP Exams, will be recognized as National AP Scholars.

Benefits of taking AP courses & exams

  • AP helps students graduate from university on time. (Research consistently shows that students taking AP courses and exams have a much higher likelihood of earning their university/college degree on schedule in four years).
  • Explore advanced topics—study in greater depth. (AP students outperform their peers when placed into advanced courses and are more likely to choose challenging majors)
  • Develop advanced skills—form disciplined study habits. (AP students are twice as likely to graduate with a double major and twice as likely to go onto a graduate degree)
  • Possible tuition savings. Students can write as many AP exams as they wish to. (Every successful mark of 4 or 5 can earn a student a university credit. Successful completion of 4 or 5 exams can save a year of university tuition).
